Built for Indian GST, Not Just a Generic Template

A generic invoice template gets the layout right but leaves the actual GST math to you — and getting CGST/SGST versus IGST wrong is an easy, common mistake. This tool calculates it automatically based on your business and client's states, spells out the total in words the way Indian invoices conventionally do, and remembers your next invoice number and any client templates you save, all without an account.

How to Use This Tool

  1. 1Fill in your business and client detailsIncluding each party's state — this is what determines CGST/SGST versus IGST automatically.
  2. 2Add line itemsDescription, HSN/SAC code, quantity, rate, and a GST rate preset per item.
  3. 3Review the live previewTotals, tax split, and the amount in words all update instantly as you type.
  4. 4Download as PDF, or share via WhatsAppSave a reusable template first if you'll be billing the same client again.

What Makes This More Than a Basic Template

  1. 1GST is calculated correctly, not just added as a flat rateBased on your business state and your client's state, the invoice automatically splits GST into CGST + SGST (same state) or IGST (different states) — the actual rule real Indian GST invoices have to follow.
  2. 2Amount in words, generated automaticallyIndian invoices conventionally spell out the total ("Five Thousand Rupees Only") to prevent tampering — this is generated for you using the correct lakh/crore numbering, not the Western thousand/million system.
  3. 3Sequential invoice numbering that remembers itselfYour next invoice number is suggested automatically based on the last one you generated, stored in your browser — no more manually tracking what number you're on.
  4. 4Save a client as a reusable templateIf you invoice the same client repeatedly, save their details and line items as a named template and load it back instantly next time, instead of re-typing everything.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the tool decide between CGST/SGST and IGST?

If your business state and your client's state are the same, GST is split evenly into CGST and SGST (each half the total GST rate) — this is intra-state supply. If the states differ, the full GST rate is charged as IGST instead — inter-state supply. This follows the actual rule under India's GST law.

What is the HSN/SAC code field for?

HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) codes classify goods, and SAC (Services Accounting Code) codes classify services — Indian GST invoices are required to include one or the other per line item above certain turnover thresholds. This tool includes the field so your invoice is ready to meet that requirement.

Can I use this for international clients in other currencies?

Yes — switch the currency to USD, EUR, GBP, or AED. Note that the amount-in-words line is specific to Indian Rupees and won't appear for other currencies, since it uses INR-specific numbering conventions.

Are my invoices or client data stored anywhere?

Templates and your invoice number counter are saved in your own browser's local storage, not on any server — nothing is uploaded or accessible to anyone else, including us. Clearing your browser data will also clear these.

Does the WhatsApp share button send the actual PDF file?

On devices and browsers that support the Web Share API with files (most modern mobile browsers), yes — it opens your share sheet with the PDF attached, ready to send. On browsers that don't support this, it opens WhatsApp with a text summary instead, and you attach the downloaded PDF manually.

Is this invoice maker free to use?

Yes, completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no limit on how many invoices you create.
