Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between the two modes?
Profit/Loss calculates the result of a single buy-then-sell trade. DCA Average Cost is for the opposite pattern — buying the same asset in smaller amounts over time instead of all at once — and calculates your true average entry price across every buy-in, which is what actually determines whether you're in profit at the current price.
Why does average cost basis matter for DCA?
Each buy-in happens at a different price, so "am I in profit" isn't answerable from any single purchase — it depends on the blended average across all of them. This is exactly what dollar-cost averaging is designed to smooth out: buying consistently regardless of price avoids the risk of putting everything in at a single bad entry point.
Does this fetch live crypto prices?
No — you enter the prices yourself for every field, including "current price." This keeps the tool fully private and free of any dependency on a live market-data API; you can plug in whatever price you're checking against, live or hypothetical.
Why are exchange fees on both sides significant for crypto specifically?
Crypto exchange fees, even at seemingly small percentages, compound noticeably on both the buy and sell side of a trade, and vary a lot by exchange and order type (market vs. limit). Leaving them out of a profit calculation can make a trade look more profitable than it actually was.
