Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the calculator deduct area for doors and windows?

Doors and windows aren't painted (at least not with wall paint), so including their area in your total would overestimate how much paint you need. Standard average sizes are used by default, but they're just an estimate — measure your actual doors and windows for a more precise result.

Do I really need 2 coats?

For most colors and surfaces, yes — a single coat rarely gives full, even coverage, especially over a different existing color. Light colors going over dark ones, or vice versa, sometimes need 3. One coat is usually only enough for a touch-up on the same color.

Where do I find my paint's actual coverage rate?

It's printed on the tin, usually as "coverage" or "spreading rate" — typically 10–12 m² per liter (350–400 sq ft per gallon) for a smooth wall, though textured surfaces absorb more and reduce coverage.

Should I round up or down on the number of cans?

Always round up. Running short mid-job means a return trip and risks a slightly different batch/tint; a little extra paint keeps for touch-ups later.
