Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between European and US wallpaper roll sizes?
European "standard" rolls are typically 53cm wide and 10.05m long; US rolls are commonly wider (around 68.5cm) but shorter (about 8.2m). The two aren't interchangeable for calculating quantity — always check the actual roll you're buying, since sizes vary further by manufacturer.
Why does a pattern repeat increase how much wallpaper I need?
Patterned wallpaper has to line up between adjacent strips, so each strip needs extra length cut off at the pattern's repeat point to keep the design continuous — this extra is wasted material. A wallpaper with no repeat (a plain color or texture) wastes almost nothing per strip by comparison.
Should I buy extra rolls beyond the calculated number?
It's common practice to buy one extra roll beyond the calculation, especially for a large or oddly-shaped room, or when the wallpaper might be discontinued — matching dye lots later can be difficult or impossible.
