A Border That Fits the Photo

Most border tools add a fixed number of pixels, so the same setting looks thick on one photo and invisible on another. Here the border is sized as a percentage of the photo by default, and you can see the final pixel size before you download. Frame a photo for printing, give it a Polaroid look, or pad it to a square or 4:5 so Instagram shows the whole picture instead of cropping it.

How to Use This Tool

  1. 1Choose a photoJPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC. It stays on your device.
  2. 2Pick a style and sizeEven, Polaroid, Square 1:1, Portrait 4:5 or your own size for each side. The preview updates as you drag.
  3. 3Choose the fillA solid colour (white, black, any hex code) or a blurred copy of the photo.
  4. 4DownloadFull resolution, same format as your photo, no watermark.

Good to Know

  • Size the border in "% of photo" and it looks the same on any photo. A 20-pixel border is bold on a small screenshot but a hairline on a 4000-pixel phone photo.
  • Square 1:1 and Portrait 4:5 add space to the short sides so Instagram shows the whole photo instead of cropping it. Set the minimum border to 0 for padding only on the short sides.
  • "Blurred photo" fills the border with a soft, blurred copy of your picture, the popular no-crop look for Reels and feed posts.
  • The border is added around the photo, so nothing is covered or cropped. The download is bigger than the original by the border size, and the tool shows the final pixel size.
  • Rounded corners round the photo inside the frame. The corners take the border colour.
  • Nothing is uploaded: the border is drawn in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a white border to a photo for Instagram without cropping?

Choose Square 1:1 (or Portrait 4:5 for a taller feed post), keep the fill on white and download. The tool pads the short sides so the whole photo fits Instagram's shape; the minimum border slider adds space on every side too.

Does the border cover part of my image?

No. The border is added outside the photo, so the image gets bigger and none of the original is covered or cropped.

How thick should a border be?

For a clean frame, 3–6% of the photo's shorter side works well; for a gallery-style mat, try 10–15%. Measuring in % keeps the look the same whatever the photo's resolution. Switch to pixels when you need an exact size.

Can I have a different border on each side?

Yes. Choose "Custom sides" and set the top, right, bottom and left separately, in percent or pixels. The Polaroid style does this for you with a deeper bottom edge.

Which formats are supported, and is quality kept?

JPG, PNG and WebP download in the same format; HEIC and other formats download as PNG. The photo is kept at full resolution; JPG and WebP are saved at high quality (92%).

Is this free?

Yes: no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many photos you frame.
