What Is Smart Crop?

Two kinds of automatic crop in one place. Trim removes the empty white, coloured or transparent border around a product, signature, logo or scan, so the subject fills the image. Smart crop fits a photo to a shape such as 1:1 for Instagram or 9:16 for a story, choosing the most interesting part and keeping faces in frame. Both work on many images at once, and you can adjust any crop before downloading.

How the Analysis Actually Works

  1. 1Trim: find where the background endsThe four corners tell the tool what the background looks like (white, a solid colour, or transparent). Every pixel that differs from it by more than the tolerance counts as content, and the crop is the box around all of it.
  2. 2Smart crop: score every possible positionFor the shape you choose, the tool tries many positions and scores how much detail, colour and skin tone each one keeps. Detected faces add a large bonus, so the crop centres on people.
  3. 3You stay in controlThe suggestion is shown as a box over your image. Drag it, change its size, or reset it before downloading.

Good to Know

  • Trimming is ideal for e-commerce: it removes uneven white space so every product fills the frame the same way.
  • For a signature or stamp on white paper, trim with a tolerance of 15–25 to ignore paper shading, then use a small margin.
  • Transparent PNGs (logos, cut-out products) are trimmed to the visible pixels and stay transparent.
  • Smart crop scores edges, colour and skin tones, and gives detected faces extra weight, so people stay in frame even in a tight square.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I remove white space around an image?

Choose "Trim empty edges". The tool reads the background colour from the corners and cuts away the plain border. If a bit of background remains (for example on photographed paper), raise the tolerance; use the margin slider to leave a little breathing room.

Does it keep faces in the crop?

Yes. In smart crop mode, faces are detected and strongly favoured, so a portrait cropped to a square or a 9:16 story keeps the face inside. You can still drag the box if you want a different framing.

Can I adjust the crop?

In smart crop mode, drag the box to move it and use the crop size slider to zoom in. "Reset to suggestion" brings back the automatic crop. For completely free cropping, use the Crop Image tool.

Can I crop many images at once?

Yes. Add as many as you like; each gets its own automatic crop with the same settings. Check any of them in the preview, adjust if needed, and download all in one ZIP.

Will cropping reduce quality?

No. The crop is taken from the full-resolution original and nothing is resized. JPGs are saved at 95% quality, and PNGs (including transparent ones) are lossless.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Analysis and cropping happen entirely in your browser.
