A Full Frequency Table, Not Just a Top-5 List

This tool counts every word in your text, ranks them by frequency, and shows the full list with a visual bar next to each count — with options to exclude common filler words, set a minimum word length, and toggle case sensitivity. When you need the complete dataset rather than just what fits on screen, export every word and its count directly to a CSV file.

How to Use This Tool

  1. 1Paste or type your textThe frequency table updates instantly as you type.
  2. 2Toggle common-word filteringExclude words like "the," "and," and "is" to focus on the words that actually carry meaning.
  3. 3Set a minimum word lengthFilter out short words like "a" or "to" that usually aren't useful in a frequency analysis.
  4. 4Export the full list as CSVDownload every word and its count/percentage for further analysis in a spreadsheet.

Where Word Frequency Analysis Is Actually Useful

  1. 1Checking SEO keyword densityConfirming a target keyword appears often enough (but not so often it looks like stuffing) is a common content-writing check that a raw frequency count answers directly.
  2. 2Spotting overused words in your own writingEveryone has words they lean on without noticing — a frequency count surfaces them clearly, unlike reading through the text yourself, where repeated words tend to blend in.
  3. 3Quick text analysis for research or content reviewSummarizing what a document is actually about, or comparing word usage between two versions of a text, is faster with a sorted frequency table than reading start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are "common words" and why exclude them?

Words like "the," "and," "is," and "of" (often called stopwords) appear extremely often in any English text but carry little topical meaning on their own. Excluding them (the default here) surfaces the words that actually say something about the content.

What does the minimum word length filter do?

It excludes any word shorter than the number of letters you set — useful for filtering out short connector words that survive stopword filtering, or for focusing specifically on longer, more distinctive words.

What does the CSV export contain?

Every unique word found in your text (not just the top ones shown in the table), along with its exact count and percentage of total words — ready to open in a spreadsheet for further sorting or analysis.

Does case-sensitivity actually matter for word frequency?

By default, "Word" and "word" are counted as the same word, which is usually what you want. Turning on case-sensitivity treats them as different entries — useful if you specifically care about capitalization, like counting proper nouns separately from common usage.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No — the frequency analysis runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you paste here is sent to a server.

Is this word frequency tool free to use?

Yes, completely free, with no sign-up and no length limit.
